Image Save Privacy Policy
Image Save works on your device. The developer does not receive your images, image addresses, browsing activity, settings or any analytics.
What the extension handles
Image Save does something only when you choose one of its items in an image's right-click menu. For that one image it handles:
- The image address and the image itself - to download the image and save it unchanged or convert it to JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF. Conversion runs inside your browser.
- The address of the page you clicked on - to tie the operation to that page, so that a later retry cannot be applied to a different page.
- The page or frame you clicked in - each time you choose an Image Save item for an image on a web page, a small script packaged with the extension runs once in that page or frame. It compares image addresses on the page to find the image you clicked. It reads that image only when the image exists solely inside the page (a blob image) or when you press “Retry using this page's session”. The script does not collect or send any other page content and stops when the operation ends or the offer expires: about one minute, or up to about two minutes if you use “Retry using this page's session”.
- Your settings - JPG/WebP quality and whether to ask where to save.
Image Save does not read your browsing history and does not build a record or profile of the sites you visit.
What is stored and for how long
- Settings are stored in the browser's extension storage until you change them or remove the extension.
- Short-lived status - whether an operation is running, finished or failed, and the website names shown in the popup - is kept in the browser's temporary session storage, which the browser clears when it closes.
- One pending access request - if an image cannot be retrieved and the popup offers site access, the image address and the page address are kept in temporary session storage. The request expires after five minutes and can no longer be used. It is deleted when you finish, dismiss or retry, when the page changes, when access is revoked, or when it expires; if the browser has paused the extension's background process at that moment, it is deleted the next time the extension runs or when the browser closes.
- Images are processed in memory and are not stored by the extension. The only file written is the download you asked for, saved where your browser saves downloads.
What leaves your device
Only the request for the selected image, sent to the website or CDN that hosts it. That request is sent without cookies or sign-in data, except when you press “Retry using this page's session” (see below). No referrer is sent, and redirects are refused. Image Save has no server: nothing is sent to the developer or to any other service. While you are on a public website, Image Save does not request images at localhost or at a private-network IP address (such as 192.168.1.10).
Site access and the page session
Image Save needs no access to websites when you install it. Image Save first tries with the browser's temporary access to the tab you clicked in. If a website will not hand over the selected image, the popup may offer two separate options. Nothing happens until you press a button.
- Allow site access and retry without sign-in asks the browser for permission to access that image's website. The retry is sent without cookies or sign-in data. The permission stays until you revoke it; Image Save uses it only for images you select.
- Retry using this page's session (secure HTTPS pages and images only) sends that one image request with the sign-in data the browser keeps for the site, such as cookies. Image Save never reads, stores or exports cookie or password values, and this option adds no site permission. The website receives the request even if saving then fails. The offer expires after at most 60 seconds.
Your controls
- Open the Image Save popup → Site access to see every website you allowed and revoke each one.
- Ignore or dismiss any access offer; Image Save will not retry on its own.
- Change quality and "Ask where to save" in the popup at any time.
- Removing the extension deletes its settings and temporary data.
Collection, sharing and sale
The developer does not collect, transmit, sell or share images, addresses, browsing activity, settings, identifiers, analytics or telemetry. Nothing is used for advertising, profiling or credit decisions, and no person can view your data through the developer.
Limited use
Website content handled by Image Save is used only for its single purpose: saving the image you selected, unchanged or converted. Image Save's use of this information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements, and with the Microsoft Edge Add-ons developer policies.
Changes
If Image Save's data practices change, this policy and its effective date will be updated before the new version is released.
